چکیده

Compression of the median nerve after Colles’s fracture has been well documented. The causes of compression that have been identified include haematoma within the carpal tunnel (Seddon 1975; Watson-Jones 1 976), hyperextension at the time of the injUry with direct nerve damage (Kirchman 1910; Sterling and Habermann 1973), and healing with excessive callus formation and malunion (Zachary 1945). The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to a previously unreported cause of compression: namely, haematoma and subsequent fibrosis beneath the deep fascia at the level of the fracture site, well away from the carpal tunnel. The investigation began when a patient presented with the condition and this led to the clinical review of three other patients who had undergone carpal tunnel decompression for this complication during 1976; nerve conduction studies were undertaken by an independent neurologist. A second exploration was necessary in one case.

Acute Combined Median and Radial Nerve Palsies after Distal Humeral Shaft Fracture

We report a case of a 29-year-old man who presented with a distal humeral shaft fracture sustained by blunt trauma. Physicalexamination and nerve conduction study were consistent with injury to the median and radial nerves proximal to theelbow. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the humeral shaft fracture with neurolysis of the medianand radial nerves. Repeat electrom...

Ulnar Nerve Palsy Following Closed Fracture of the Distal Radius: A Report of 2 Cases

Ulnar nerve palsy subsequent to a fracture of the distal radius is extremely rare compared to a median nerve injury. The lesion tends to occur in younger patents with a high-energy mechanism of injury and a severe injury pattern consisting of wide displacement, comminution, combined distal ulnar fracture and open fracture. The mechanism of injury can contribute to a direct contusion and tractio...

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Association with Klippel-Trénaunay Syndrome: A Case Report

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome is a rare congenital condition that rarely affects peripheral nerves. Median nerve involvement at carpal tunnel level has only been reported in a few   occasions in the medial literature. A 61 years old Caucasian female patient with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome presented with a 10 months history of paraesthesiae and numbness affecting the median nerve distribution area...

Comparison of the Rate of Nerve Injury after Posterior and Anterior Approaches in Fractures of Proximal Half of Radius in Adults

This clinical study was carried out to compare the rate of nerve complications after anterior and posterior approaches in forearm both bone fractures in adults. For this purpose, 310 patients with forearm both bone fractures operated during 1997-2002 in Kerman Shahid Bahonar Hospital were studied. From these patients, 121 cases werefemale and 189 cases were male and they were aged from 12 to 67...
